Our Founders
A Word from Our Founders
Angelika Bachleda-Curuś
During my journey of academic development, I noticed how challenging access to information about scholarships, olympiads, and competitions was, especially for girls in rural areas of Poland. Many opportunities that could help develop talents seemed out of reach. I faced many challenges and had to acquire knowledge on my own, which motivated me to take action. This sparked a desire in me that no young woman should feel alone on her educational journey, and that the doors to education should be open for her.
From that moment on, I knew that my greatest goal was to ensure equal access to education for every young woman in Poland. That’s why I created the foundation “To My Dziewczyny!” – to open the doors to the opportunities I once sought. Our foundation is a space where young women can spread their wings, and, above all, a community of ambitious women inspiring each other every day to take action.
Every girl has the right not only to learn but also to fulfill her great ambitions, regardless of where she comes from. “To My Dziewczyny!” is more than just a foundation – it’s a movement striving for real change, fighting for equality of opportunity, and inspiring the next generations to boldly pursue their goals.
Today, my determination is stronger than ever. I will do everything to give others what I didn’t have – access to opportunities, support at every stage, and inspiration to take action. Together, we can prove that every woman carries the power to change the world. Have courage – the future belongs to all of us!

I am currently a senior at LO V Augusta Witkowskiego in Krakow. Growing up in a small city in Poland, I readily sought academic opportunities that were not available in my hometown. I was encouraged to participate in various activities such as academic Olympics. However, it wasn’t until my younger sister began to apply for similar contests that I noticed the difference in encouragement given to boys versus girls.
I believe ambition is the key to success, and everyone should have equal access to knowledge and resources to achieve their goals. Through To My Dziewczyny! (ItIsUsGirls!), I am committed to ensuring that young girls in rural areas receive the same support and opportunities to pursue their dreams and reach their full potential.
My blog, Educational Contrasts, was initially prompted by my passion for education and the differences in systems between the U.S. and Europe. Drawing from my experience at Stanford, my blog also explores the challenges of balancing educational inequality for women in the U.S., offering insights on how Poland can learn from these efforts.
I have also conducted research with a Yale PhD graduate, on the impact of women’s education on the labor market in Poland, revealing that increasing educational attainment for women has a significant positive impact on economic indicators, such as reducing unemployment, narrowing the gender wage gap, and boosting GDP per capita. These findings reinforce the importance of continuing to promote higher education among women to drive economic growth and improve gender equality in the labor market.
